Remember my BFF Cody?

Me and this guy go way back.

We met in Algebra 2 when we were sophomores in high school, and were basically inseparable through high school. We wrote a few songs, which we never got legit recordings of, which was sad.

I went off to BYU-Idaho while he went to various schools to pursue his opera career. I got married, he got a bajillion degrees,  and we both have been living thousands of miles apart ever since.

But NOW he’s getting his masters degree at Rice which is….ba-dum-ching, in HOUSTON!

And I’m in San Antonio. So that’s pretty awesome.

He’s basically my honorary brother, and my better musician half. This guy can turn any song I pluck out on the piano and turn it into gold. Plus he gets my awkward, goofy sense of humor. And even though we believe different things and live different lives, we’ve kept our friendship going strong over the years.

This video had terrible audio quality (I’m learning how to make videos that actually sound good. One step at a time!) but this is one of the songs we wrote in high school. If you can hear it, hope you enjoy! Lyrics posted below video and in video description.

Lyrics by Erica McCann (and a little bit Cody), Music by Cody Bowers :)

Another day gone by,
an uneasy hello, and unsaid goodbye.
and no matter how hard i try,
i can’t get you off my mind.

I’d say this to your face,
but you never quit moving, and i’m not one to chase.
i’ll never get close enough,
i can’t keep up with your pace.

I’m loving you from a distance,
and people say it’s only a matter of time.
I’m wearing thin from this resistance,
but we both know, you’ll never be mine.

Another long night
thinking of every word that didn’t come out right.
try to close my eyes,
but i can’t get you off my mind.

and you aways seem to notice
when my cover’s about to burst,
and you’re always such a good friend to me,
and that just makes it worse.

I’m loving you from a distance,
and people say it’s only a matter of time.
I’m wearing thin from this resistance,
but we both know, you’ll never be mine.
But it’s okay, i’ll be just fine.

But what if we felt the same way all along,
never said a word because we might be wrong,
holding back no matter how strong
these feelings, they couldn’t get us far,
nowhere far for long.

I’m loving you from a distance,
and people say it’s only a matter of time.
I’m wearing thin from this resistance,
but we both know, you’ll never be mine.
But it’s okay, i’ll be just fine.

But it’s okay, you’ll be just fine.
